Film-Pak founders Basil Poulos and George Riddel
Basil Poulos & George Riddel

Basil Poulos and George Riddel were friends since grade school.

Basil and George both went off to serve our Country. Basil in the air-force and George as a marine in Chosin Bay, Korea. After their obligations to our country were completed, both gentleman came back and finished their degrees as Bacteriologist. They then both became employed at a major Pharmaceutical manufacture in Fort Worth, Texas.

Basil wanted to venture out and was interested in starting his own company. Basil’s technician at the pharmaceutical company told him that Mrs. Rucker who owned a Candy Company was interested in selling her company. Her husband made candy and packaged it with the cellophane machines until the cellophane business diminished due to the sugar shortage of WWII

Basil was excited at the opportunity to purchase the 8 cellophane bag machines, and 2 polyethylene machines and asked his long time friend George to partner with him.

The demand for the cellophane was non existent, Basil knew they needed to find accounts quickly and asked George if his wife, Carmen could come help them find accounts. She soon joined them and began calling every business in the phone book that she thought would use bags. They soon found out there was a great need for polyethylene bags. Making bags during the day and delivering them in the trunk of the car, the business was growing; they soon moved off to Berry Street in Fort Worth Keeping their polyethylene bag machines – no longer needing the cellophane bag machines. They had found their niche!

For the next three years they continued making polyethylene plain bags and the business continued to flourish. George told Basil that he thought they needed a larger building so they could add their first extruder.

The name was changed from Fort Worth Cellophane Company to Film-Pak, and they moved once again, to the current location.

Basil and George purchased their first Extruder, shortly after that, they added the first Printing Press.

Film Pak is still owned by the same families and family operated. Today Film-Pak has Extruders that operate 24/7, 6 color presses, and many bag machines.

From the humble beginnings of the Ft.Worth Cellophane Company to the birth of Film-Pak (1966), the same values still exist, Quality products, Timely delivery and Great customer Service.
